Therapy for Anxiety

Anxiety can feel overwhelming and discouraging when it interferes with everyday life. You don't have to face it alone. At Restoration Psychotherapy, I offer support and tools to help individuals understand the root causes of their anxiety and develop effective coping strategies.

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is worry about things that may happen in the future. People experience different feelings of anxiety, some common elements are: constant worry, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and physical symptoms like a racing heart or shortness of breath. Having some anxiety in your life is actually a healthy thing because it means that your brain is thinking about what is next and how to keep you safe and prepared for the future. Having a lot of anxiety can be physically, mentally, and emotionally uncomfortable and start to get in the way of everyday life when it stops you from doing the things that matter to you.

How Can Therapy Help?

Psychotherapy for anxiety focuses on providing relief and tools to manage anxiety more effectively. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a key aspect of reducing anxiety is by identifying and changing negative thought patterns that fuel anxious thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

With Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, anxiety is seen as a natural response to uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. In ACT people are encouraged to accept and defuse those experiences rather than avoid them, while also committing to actions aligned with their values.

Another way to address anxiety is with mindfulness and relaxation techniques. This involves learning to stay grounded in the present moment and reducing physical tension.
